Weingut Gernot & Heike Heinrich Salzberg 2018 1,5l

Salzberg by Gernot Heinrich is a cult red that combines mainly Merlot with Blaufränkisch from warm hillsides near Gols. Biodynamically farmed vines rooted in lime-rich soils are harvested entirely by hand. The bouquet is packed with black berries, blackberry and cassis, joined by notes of graphite, dark chocolate and tobacco. On the palate the wine is powerful, dense and multi-layered, with silky woven tannins, fresh acidity and a long, saline-tinged finish. A great red for special occasions that shines alongside game, beef or aged hard cheeses.

Long ageing in 500-litre barrels gives Salzberg depth, spice and a dense, finely structured presence.

Weingut Gernot & Heike Heinrich

In Gols, Burgenland—between the gravelly Parndorfer Platte and the limestone slopes of the Leithagebirge—Weingut Gernot & Heike Heinrich has pursued one idea since 1990: wine as a faithful translation of place. The grape variety: Merlot

Merlot is a famous red grape known for plum, black cherry, soft tannins and a smooth, rounded palate. It is central to Bordeaux and widely planted worldwide.
