Les Tourelles de Longueville

Les Tourelles de Longueville Pauillac 1991 0,75l

Les Tourelles de Longueville is the second wine of Château Pichon Baron in Pauillac, named after the estate’s picturesque turrets. The blend draws heavily on Merlot from the Sainte Anne plot, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and other classic varieties. The bouquet shows black fruits, cassis and cherry alongside cedar, cigar box nuances and subtle floral tones. On the palate it offers a medium-bodied, classical profile with supple, resolved tannins and balanced acidity, in keeping with a traditionally styled Pauillac. Notes of leather, spice and dried tobacco linger in the long, savoury finish, making it a fine partner for roast lamb, braised beef or aged cheeses.

Les Tourelles de Longueville

On Pauillac’s deep gravel rises, with the Gironde estuary moderating the climate, Les Tourelles de Longueville offers a distinctly Merlot-led reading of a great Médoc address. Linked to Château Pichon Baron, the 1855 Deuxième Grand Cru Classé, this cuvée has been associated since the 1980s with the Sainte-Anne parcel, whose fruit gives it an identity of its own within the estate. That is why it should not be reduced to a mere second wine. It is a deliberately shaped expression of terroir, selection and house style. Gravel, clay and estuarine light provide the framework; careful harvest decisions, measured élevage and classic Bordeaux precision give it form. What emerges is a Pauillac with lineage and restraint, translating the authority of the appellation into a silkier architecture without losing the discipline, depth and unmistakable nobility of its origin.
