Baron Edmond from Rupert & Rothschild is an elegant Bordeaux-style blend from the South African region of Stellenbosch. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are matured in French oak to create a layered, refined red. The bouquet reveals black cherry, cassis and plum, supported by cedarwood, tobacco and dark chocolate notes. On the palate the wine shows a dense yet silky texture with fine-grained tannins and a perfect balance of fruit and savoury spice. Fresh acidity lends length and extra finesse. A long finish leaves lingering dark berries and polished toastiness on the tongue.
Eighteen months in French 225-litre barrels give the Bordeaux blend depth, spice and an elegant tannin structure.
