Welschriesling
Welschriesling is a Central and south-eastern European white grape that is unrelated to Rhine Riesling despite the name. It is widely found in Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary and nearby regions, where it can produce crisp dry whites and impressive sweet wines.
The variety is valued for its acidity, freshness and ability to retain brightness late in the season. In dry styles it is often light and citrusy; in botrytised wines, especially around Austria's Burgenland, it can become concentrated, honeyed and complex.
